Annual north european forestry students’ meeting NERM 2017

The NERM (North European Regional Meeting) is the most important event for future professionals in our sector. Students from countries such as Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Sweden, Austria, Georgia, Czech Republic, Germany or Russia met in Ukraine from 11th to 21st May to share ideas and experiences about the sustainable management and use of forest resources and the development of future projects.

To this end, the Association of Forestry Students of Kiev has designed a program based on the multifunctional use of the forest in such a way that the participants will visit different natural and artificial forest in of one of the biggest countries of Europe, urban forests, agroforestry systems, Biomass plantations for energy use, the National Arboretum, erosion control forests, mountain forests in the Carpathians, primary forest reserves and many other important sites related to forests in Ukraine.

In addition, the international scientific-practical conference “Impact of young scientists on forestry and horticulture” will also take place. During the conference, participants will present their scientific and practical works and visit the forests in the exclusion zone of Chernobyl to check on natural regeneration after the nuclear disaster 1986.

To complete the program there are various cultural, musical and leisure events in which the traditions of the organizing country will be shown and the next NERM 2018 organizer will be chosen.

Forest World Magazine has supported NERM 2017 as official media partner and it is present during this event in which they travel approximately 2000 km and visit the most important forest areas of the country, informing of the evolution of the different activities that are carried out.
